As many of you may know, posting things on the internet is not hard at all. Anyone can easily crate a fake website and post false information. I will never understand why people do this but it is a big concern because the effects of this could caust you an argument or even getting an A on a paper. It is very important to make sure that you properly evaluate a website before you use it so that none of this can happen to you and that you will be able to use the information without worry. There are six components of a website that you should check before you use the information on the website: authority, accuracy, objectivity, relevancy, currency, and coverage. Authority would mean if there is an author taking credit for making the website. Accuracy would mean if you fact-check the information to make sure that is true. Objectivity would be if the website maintains consistency and stay on topic. Relevancy would be if there are no adds on the website and if it looks realistic. Currency is if there is an up-to-date copyright and the dates used on the website are current. Coverage would be the website covering all the things about the topic of the website.
The above link is an example of a fake website. I was able to figure this out through following the six components of a website. The website does not have a definite author, it keeps going off topic, and it does not have up-to-date dates. However; the makes of this website tried to fool you by having a current copyright, but you have to go through nad make sure that the website follows all the six components of a website.
The above link is a real website. I was able to come to this conclusion due to the fact it follows all the six components of a website. There is a clear author, gives accurate information about the area, stays on topic, is kept up-to-date, covers all the major topics of the area, and has an up-to-date copyright.
